SAN JOSE COIN CLUB TOKENS

The San Jose Coin Club tokens were each valued to match the show, ie., the 22nd show's Show Tokens were valued at 22 cents, and were redeemable on the bourse floor for 22 cents in trade. The 29th show's Show Tokens were valued at 29 cents, etc., etc. These tokens were given away ‘while supplies lasted’ to those attending the annual coin show.

These tokens were struck privately by Marshall Meyers at first. Others joined in producing them after Marshall died in 1999.

Except for the first year of issue, the obverse of each token shows a version of the building on the Show Medal's Obverse. For most SJCC Numismatic Issues, the side with the date of issue or with the date of the event commemorated is considered the Reverse. With the SJCC Tokens, side with the annual show number is considered the Reverse.

Beginning in the 3rd year of issue, 1992 - the year of the 24th San Jose Coin Club's Annual Show, a second version of the token was struck in a different metal. The original issue price of these 'Special Issue' (SI) tokens were $7.00 each and were made available to members at the club meetings in sets which include a select sample of the show token for $8.00 for the set.

All of the Show Tokens have been struck by the Hoffman and Hoffman mint. Most of the earlier issues were 25mm in diameter. Three of the tokens, 1993, 1997 and 2002, were made 29mm in diameter to celebrate the 25th annual coin show in 1993, the 50th anniversary of the SJCC in 1997 and the 55th anniversary of the SJCC in 2002. The 2000 token has the words 'In Memory of Marshall Meyers' on the Obverse to mark the passing of Marshall.

The San Jose Coin Club continues Marshall's legacy by producing new Show Tokens every year.
